Hazel bean poles are long, straight supports used in gardens to help climbing plants, such as beans, grow upwards. Made from coppiced hazel, they provide a sturdy framework for the plants to twine around, ensuring adequate sunlight and air circulation, promoting healthy growth and making harvesting easier.
These bean poles were harvested from the coppice-with-standards area of Park Coppice, where hazel and poplar trees grow side by side. Cutting the hazel lets in light and allows flora to flourish while the hazel regrows, ready to be harvested again in seven years or so.
Bean poles are supplied in bundles of eleven to allow for a ridge pole in a traditional bean support structure.
